May 23, 2020 – Famous Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, among 4 others are booked under the cheating case, 455 days after filing the case, UP’s Moradabad police on Friday filed a charge-sheet, setting the stage for trial now.

Sinha was due to attend an event in New Delhi at Siri Fort Auditorium in 2018, which got canceled last-minute, for which she charged in advance 24 lakhs then, which never get refunded to the organizers, says the complainant Pramod Sharma, a city-based event organizer who approached Kataghar police station of Moradabad.

The charge-sheet saw the light of the day after complainant Sharma tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other senior police officials of the state alleging delay in the action by the UP police.

 Bijendra Singh, Moradabad Police’s sub-inspector, who is in charge of the investigation said, ‘’The allegation pressed by complainant Pramod Sharma is found to be true, so far. Therefore, we have filed the charge-sheet against Sonakshi Sinha, Edgar Skarai, Bhoomi Dhakkar, Malika Punjabi, and Abhishek Sinha under the IPC section 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust).

‘’Sonakshi Sinha and her crew agreed to attend an event in Delhi in September 2018. For that, the event -organizer Pramod Sharma have given an advance and also sent the flight tickets to her, but she didn’t turn up, let to an event-cancellation and huge losses to the organizers. It was also found that money transaction was also taken place via net banking’’, added the investigating officer (IO), Bijendra Singh.

However, any clarification from Sonakshi is still awaited in this case.

In July 2019, a team from Moradabad Police visited her residence in Mumbai to investigate the matter.
