Washington, PTI: America wants Indian students to come to the US for studies. A senior US diplomat told a Washington DC-based think tank on Wednesday that although Corona has raised uncertainty and anxiety, the US administration wants Indian students to come and study there.
The outgoing Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, Alice Wells, said that the visa process is currently not going on due to the epidemic. So this is going to be an issue about which I think we have to go through our path. He said these things to former US Ambassador to India Richard Verma during a virtual discussion organized by Atlantic Council.
After China, India is the second country where the maximum number of students are studying in America. More than 2 lakh Indian students study in various universities in America. Most educational institutions have been closed due to the Corona epidemic. During this time the holidays remain here during the spring season but due to this epidemic the holidays have been extended. Wells said the epidemic has increased uncertainty and concern for American and foreign students. We assure you that as soon as the situation is right, we will do everything possible for Indian students in the country. Last year, 200,000 students enrolled here.
More than 1.5 million cases of corona infection have been reported in America. According to Johns Hopkins University, so far 15,51,853 cases have been registered in the country. So far, 93,439 people have lost their lives, while the figure of those who get cured is 2,94,312.
