July 11, 2020 (New Delhi) – Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Human Resources Ministry to cancel final year exams for students of both Delhi University (DU) and other central universities across the country amid the pandemic outbreak.
“For the sake of our youth, I urge the honorable Prime Minister to personally intervene and cancel final year exams of DU and other central government universities and save the future”, said Kejriwal in a letter written to PM Narendra Modi.
In his letter, the Chief Minister urged the center and the UGC to amend guidelines in the larger interest of students and save their futures by canceling last semester examinations.
Delhi government will likely cancel the exams which come directly under its purviews such as National Law University, Delhi Technological University, Ambedkar University, and the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women.
However, the decision is awaited for the central universities in Delhi such as Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, and the South Asian University.
Concerns over final exams come amid a worrying increase in the coronavirus cases in India where more than 8.20 lakhs cases have been detected so far.
Delhi is the third most affected region in the country with nearly 1.10 lakh cases and 3,300 death so far.
