The Bangalore court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of ​​the college student accused of sedition. The court says that if she is granted bail, she can run away. The student shouted slogans of Pakistan Zindabad at a rally organized against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Bengaluru on 20 February.

The court says that if 19-year-old Amulya Leone is granted bail, then she can indulge in a similar crime which will affect the peace of a large number of people. Amulya is a student of Journalism at Bangalore College. Police have registered a case against Amulya under sedition, promoting enmity between groups.

However, her friends claim that she was trying to give the message of universal humanity by raising the slogan of Zindabad for all countries including Pakistan and India. Dismissing Amulya’s bail plea, Vidyadhar Shirhatti, the city’s 60th Additional Civil and Sessions Judge, said in his order, “If the petitioner is granted bail, she can run.” Hence the petitioner’s petition is liable to be dismissed. ‘Amulya has often participated in protests against the CAA, NRC and NPR and was arrested on the evening of 20 February. In the video clip he can be heard shouting slogans of India Zindabad after Pakistan Zindabad. He said that finally, all countries are one. However, the microphone was snatched from him.

Amulya’s bail plea was delayed due to the lockdown. He had filed a bail petition on 25 March when the trial was going on in the lower court. The Bangalore Police has not filed a charge sheet against the student during the lockdown. His petition was heard after the lockdown rules were relaxed.
