June 30, 2020 (New Delhi) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the government is working on ‘one nation one ration card’ which will benefit the migrant workers today.
‘’The country is moving towards the institution of ‘one nation, one ration card’ which will be of immense benefit to the poor who travel to other states in search of work,’’ PM said in his televised speech while addressing the nation.
The implementation of on enation, one ration card will enable migrants to use their ration cards at any free price shops across the country to obtain foodgrains.
While announcing the government’s 20 lakh crore economic package last month, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that public distribution system (PDS) ration cards would be made portable to allow migrant workers to use those cards across states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced a key government scheme to distribute free food grains to 80 crores of India’s poorest would be extended to November-end to give relief during the festival season as the country fights coronavirus.
“Keeping in mind all the festivals that are coming up in the next few months, this scheme to provide 80 crore people with 5 kg free ration and 1 kg dal (pulses) per month will now be extended till Diwali and Chhath Puja, or till the end of November,” PM Modi said, addressing the nation for the sixth time after the coronavirus outbreak.
The Prime Minister said India was better off compared to many countries and lakhs of lives were saved because of the lockdown and other decisions were taken timely.
