May 30, 2020, An Air India flight that was en route to Moscow from New Delhi today has been asked to return mid-way after the pilot was found infected with Coronavirus.
An empty Air India’s carrier, Airbus 320NEO, took off from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport at 7 AM today and asked to return back here arrived at 12.30 PM, confirmed an official in Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Flight has almost reached into Uzbekistan’s airspace when the team on the ground on the ground asked the crew to return back to the Indian base when they released that one of the pilots had tested positive. Meanwhile, the crew has been quarantined and another plane has been sent to bring back stranded Indians’’, the official further added.
Sources confirmed in the DGCA that this appeared to be a lapse, as the pilot was not supposed to resume his duty or to be on the plane if he was found positive.
Air India conducts over 200 tests every day at Delhi Airport alone for all of its crew ahead of any flight departure, reveals Air India in an official statement on Saturday.
So far 45,000 Indians have been evacuated from abroad under the Centre’s ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ which was launched on May 07 to brain back stranded Indian nationals amid the Covid-19 emergency, said the data released by Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
