New Delhi (August 20, 2020) – India, in the preceding 24 hours, saw its biggest single-day jump of 69,652 COVID-19 cases which brings the total count to 28,36,926, says the Union Ministry data.
So far, over 21 lakh people have recovered from the deadly virus, which originated from China, taking the recovery rate to 73.90 percent.
The death toll has reached 53,866 with 967 deaths that have been reported in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra, in a grim milestone, topped the list for the maximum number of cases (6,28,642) followed by Tamil Nadu (3,49,672), Andhra Pradesh (3,16,857), Karnataka (2,49,859), Uttar Pradesh (1,67,741), and Delhi (1,56,132).
Maharashtra still continued to be the worst affected state that added 13,964 cases in the last 24 hours.
India ranks at number three position after the United States and Brazil in terms of worst-affected countries by Coronavirus.
The pandemic outbreak has killed nearly 8 lakh people across the globe since it emerged from Wuhan, China around September 2019. Over 2.5 crore people have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
