August 19, 2020 (New Delhi) The Honorable Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise.
‘’CBI will be competent to probe not only Patna FIR but any other FIR related to Rajput’s death case. Bihar government has the right to refer to Patna FIR but any FIR related to Sushant’s death case,’’ said the apex court who was hearing the petition filed by Sushant’s girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty, seeking to transfer the FIR lodged by late actor’s father in Patna to Mumbai.
While the Mumbai Police was investigating the matter in Mumbai, Sushant’s family filed an FIR in Patna leveling series of allegations against Rhea and her family.
Following the FIR in Patna, the Bihar government requested the Centre for a CBI probe into Sushant Singh Rajput’s
Sushant’s father K.K Singh has alleged that Rhea had cheated Sushant, siphoned actor’s wealth, kept him aloof from the family and forced him to end his life.
Several shreds of evidence of financial irregularities were pointed out by Suhant’s father in his complaint to Bihar police, which also provoked Enforcement Directorate (ED) to probe the money laundering angle. ED has questioned Rhea, his brother Show, Suhsnat’s ex-manager Shruti Modi, his flatmate Siddharth Pithani among others.
Rhea’s lawyer Satish Manshinde then moved to Supreme Court in an attempt to nullify the FIR lodged in Patna and urged that the Bihar government’s move to request CBI was ‘politically motivated’.
Maharashtra government had reportedly opposed the CBI probe, citing that the Mumbai police are ‘’capable of solving this matter’’, as the incident happened under the jurisdiction of Mumbai police.
