    MLA funds can be used for gaushalas in Uttar Pradesh

    Yogi Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh has made a provision under which MLAs can use the Local Area Development (MLALAD) fund to build cowsheds. Principal Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Manoj Kumar Singh said that earlier the repair or construction of cow shelters was not allowed from the MLALAD fund, but now MLAs can withdraw funds for it.

    On May 13, a Government Order (GO) has been issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj addressed to the MLAs, stating that the construction of shelter sites for stray animals, except for private individuals, has been done under MLLAD can go.

    Apart from this, the Local Area Development Fund of MLAs can be utilized for expansion of existing sheds, sanctuaries and conservation centers, sheds and boundary walls, storage, capacity addition and construction of conservation centers, Kanha groves / cowsheds.

    In August last year, the state government approved a plan to provide Rs 30 per day to farmers for the maintenance of stray animals. The scheme was approved by the state cabinet and an amount of Rs 110 crore was allocated in the first phase. The money was deposited directly into the bank accounts of those who work for stray animals. They were paid every third month.

    In the 2019-20 state budget, the government allocated Rs 247.60 crore for maintenance and construction of cow shelters in rural areas and Rs 200 crore for maintenance of ‘Kanha Gaushala’ and destitute animal shelters in urban areas.
