TikTok App Rating Rises to 1.6 After Google Erased More Than a Million Reviews

May 22, 2020 – Chinese video-sharing social networking app TikTok rises to 1.6 stars, days after Internet users across India called for ban bringing its rating down from 4.6 stars to 1.2.

Earlier this month, TikTok got snowballed into a controversy after it witnessed a backlash due to a Carry Minati Youtube vs TikTok battle. The controversy erupts after a video by celebrity Youtuber Carry Minati roasting a TikTok star, which witnessed 70 million views, was taken down after a few days on the grounds of cyberbullying.

In addition, earlier this week, TikTok received a lot of backlash due to the quality of the content it shows to millions of users. As a result, several thousand users gave the app a 1-star rating, however, within a day it has seen an improvement and has reached 1.6 overall ratings.

TikTok influencer Faizal Siddiqui, who has over 10 million followers was accused of promoting violence against women in one of his videos. Siddiqui, in his clarification, said that this is a month old video and has been edited to mislead the viewers.

Post that, twitter saw a major surge in one of its trending hashtags – #bantiktok, which remained one of the top trending topics on twitter over days. A lot of videos also surfaced up showing cruelty towards animals.

It prompted TikTok to suspend Faizal Siddiqui’s account and others who were making derogatory and objectionable videos.

‘’According to policy, we do not allow content that risks the safety of others, promotes physical harm, or glorifies violence against women. The behavior in question violates our guidelines and we have taken down the content, suspending the account, and are working with law enforcement agencies as appropriate,’’ said TikTok in a press statement.

It has been said that Google removed over a million reviews on its play store platform’s listing, which has been a sudden improvement in the TikTok app rating from 1.2 to 1.6 stars, within a day, says official twitter handle of one of the verified account user Norbert Elekes.

However, there has been no justification issued by Google yet, on why it chooses to delete the reviews.
