Mumbai: Former CM questioned on IPS Amitabh Gupta’s re-posting demanded CBI inquiry

A political storm has arisen in the state on clean chit and fresh coronation to the Home Secretary of Maharashtra. Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has objected to the Uddhav Thackeray government’s decision to bring IPS Amitabh Gupta back on duty and posted in the Home Department.

On joining the duties of Home Secretary Amitabh Gupta, Fadnavis has surrounded the Maharashtra government, alleging that there is a Wadhwans boss in the government, at the behest of which the VIP scandal happened and under the pressure of this, a clean chit was also done after a quick inquiry. And now the Home Secretary has also been crowned back again.

Former Chief Minister Fadnavis has demanded a CBI inquiry to go under the entire case. Actually, IPS Amitabh Gupta, who handed over the recommendation letter to Wadhawan in the lockdown, has returned from work on leave and the opposition party is attacking the government on this matter.

Home Secretary Amitabh Gupta in the Maharashtra government had given a walk in lockdown to 23 people including Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan, and hence Gupta was essentially sent on leave by the government. Amitabh was sent on leave only after Wadhawan was allowed to go to Mahabaleshwar during the lockdown.

Manoj Saunik, Additional Chief Finance Commissioner in Maharashtra Government, submitted an inquiry report to Home Minister Anil Deshmukh a few days ago. Gupta had admitted before the inquiry committee that he had given the letter to the Wadhawan brothers only on the basis of humanity. The letter was not given on anyone’s recommendation.

IPS officer Amitabh Gupta was given a clean chit in the case and was warned that such incidents should not be repeated in future. Explain that breaking the lockdown rules, Amitabh Gupta, Principal Secretary (Special), Home Department, issued a recommendation letter to Kapil Wadhawan and his family to visit Mahabaleshwar on 8 April.
